Top 10 Books To Read This Summer

I have always been someone who has enjoyed reading, but I rarely had time to read for pleasure throughout high school or college because of all the assigned reading. Since COVID-19 hit, it has given me a chance to read more than ever before. I have found that I enjoy reading a book more than watching TV or being on my phone.

Below, I am going to list my top 10 favorite books. It is hard to remember all I have read over the years, but these are books that have really stood out to me. I tend to read in the romantic fiction and thriller genres. I am attaching a link for the Good Reads summary for each book if you want to learn more about it!!

Hope this helps you pick out your next read!

  1. November 9: Colleen Hoover

This was the first book I read by Colleen Hoover. Since then, I have read every single one of her books! I’m obsessed to say the least. This book contains twists and turns that keep you sucked in every step of the way.

2. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo: Taylor Jenkins Reid

Oh my goodness this BOOK!!! It was originally published in 2017, but just got popular this spring. The storytelling is phenomenal. The characters were enthralling. I was hooked right away!

  1. Too Late: Colleen Hoover

This book got some harsh reviews on Good Reads, but I strongly disagree with them. I thought it was a riveting read. It is intense, romantic, devastating, and eye-opening. Hoover does not disappoint. The stories and characters she produces are so captivating.

  1. See Me: Nicholas Sparks

I was hesitant to read a Nicholas Sparks novel because I have this idea in my head that his books are unrealistic depictions of romance, however, I am SO glad I chose to read this novel. It had EVERYTHING. Love, mystery, suspense, overcoming stereotypes, drama, etc. Highly recommend.

  1. The Friend Zone: Abby Jimenez

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It contains romance and some elements of surprise that keep the reader engaged and feeling all sorts of emotions! I also highly recommend reading the second and third books of the series. Soooo good! Second is “The Happily Ever Playlist” and third is “Life’s Too Short.”

  1. Verity: Colleen Hoover

I am trying to not put all Colleen Hoover books on this list, but her books are truly one-of-a-kind!! Hoover takes on a darker side in this novel and explores more of the thriller genre while maintaining her signature romance aspects. A whirlwind of a read. If you read it, we must discuss the ending afterwards!!

7. Beneath a Scarlett Sky: Mark T. Sullivan

Historical fiction is not my usual genre, but I am so glad I gave this one a chance! The story was griping from the start. I found myself skimming the pages because I just wanted to see what happened in the end. It was incredibly written.

  1. Never Never Series: Colleen Hoover and Tarryn Fisher

Look at me branching out to a series with not just Colleen Hoover as the author! LOL. This series contains 3 books that you will FLY through. There is fantasy, romance, suspense, and twisted mystery all within the covers of these books. Tarryn Fisher is another one of my favs. They rocked it together.

  1. Twice in a Blue Moon: Christina Lauren

Christina Lauren is another author duo I have taken a strong liking to this summer. This duo writes adorable rom-com style books that are still engaging enough to be page turners! There are some silly and cheesy romantic aspects, but that does not overpower the interesting plot lines and characters.

  1. When We Believed in Mermaids: Barbara O’Neal

O’Neal’s novel felt like nothing I had read before. Even though it contained all of the elements of books I usually read, it had a unique feel to it that I really enjoyed. This novel is romantic, thrilling, heart wrenching, and dramatic.

I hope this list gives you some ideas for your next summer book! There is honestly nothing better than a good book that you can get lost in. I always say that I like books more than TV series’ because you get to know the ending in much less time!! Any of these aforementioned are well worth your time. And as always – let me know your thoughts! What books did I miss? Agree with any of my favorites?
